Fanart Corner - Those Silly Berryz

After this, the Morning Musume caricatures from 2009, then BRAND NEW ARTWORK! YAAY!!

Momoko Tsugunaga and Maasa Sudo

Maasa wrestling Momo. I said I would draw this after seeing a picture on deviantART (wondering what the Morning Musume girls were staring at, I suggested this scenario.) But I forgot who I had the original conversation with and it took a while to finally start.

Actually, I don't think this picture is canon with their characters. Maasa has looked annoyed at Momo in the past (almost everyone has, but not to the extreme of Chinami, who actually glares, haha.) But I think the two respect and look after each other. The most violent they might get with each other is a good-natured Momo Attack, hee.

Miyabi Natsuyaki, Momoko Tsugunaga, and Risako Sugaya

Miya, Momo, and Risako from Berryz Koubou. I started on this maybe three summers ago (I'm pretty sure it was in August of 2010) for a summer-themed Berryz Koubou contest on deviantART. They were all going to be eating shaved ice of their image color. I'm going to re-draw this.

Fanart Corner - Love Them Or Hate Them

Now for the last of that chibi series!

Mai Hagiwara, Erina Mano, and Saki Nakajima Cartoons

Pucchimoni V: Maimai, Manoeri, and Nakky. I really liked their outfits for one of the concerts, and tried to emulate them, but I don't think I can capture this group's aura properly without color. I was more impressed with their performance than their chemistry or characters. Color would add coolness and movement.

Aika Mitsui

Aika Mitsui... with a husky and white tiger. Time to laugh? (Those legs look so uncomfortably drawn.) Or cry? (It has been less than two years since we saw her in a wheelchair.) Either the legs need reworking or the picture needs some cropping magic.

Fanart Corner - Flower Girls

It's time for the occasional AKB48 fan art!

Amina Sato

This is meant to be Amina Sato of AKB48, whose face I find really interesting. Never mind about her feet, I was just working out the structure of her foot. Since I've been uploading sketches, you can see how I've been forming these drawings, which are almost doodling. I'm going to be treatkin my future fanart more carefully, so maybe I'll be more proud of them.

Chisato Okai, Aika Mitsui, Eri Kamei, and Yurina Kumai Cartoons

Tanpopo#: Chisa, Mittsi, Kamei, and Yurina. Cute, cute, cute... TALL. I think I might redo and color this one, because I like it. I think the shorties' poses turned out good, but I always have trouble with Yurina (except for that caricature.) How do I pose her without her looking like Godzilla, ready to accidentally crush the other members?? But Tanpopo is supposed to be a fresh and calming group, so she's fine here, I guess.

Fanart Corner - Groups of Letters

Hello!Project sure loves naming some of their groups with random letters so they are harder to Google, huh?

Ai Kago and Nozomi Tsuji Cartoons

W/Double You~! I had fun drawing their cutesy outfits and their likenesses, but the anatomy is terrible, even for a chibi. Look at those knees! But this was the first of this series that I drew.

Ayaka Wada, Chinami Tokunaga, Momoko Tsugunaga, Risa Niigaki, Maasa Sudo, and Saki Ogawa Cartoons

ZYX alpha: DAWA, Chii, Momo, Gaki, Maasa, and Sakichy. I had fun with poses in this one. Yay for gangsta Momo, Gaki, and Sakichy. And I laugh at how I portrayed Chii. But that's so her, right?

(She's probably sleeping.)

Fanart Corner - The Kids and the Ladies

More cartoons of the revival units! Only a few more posts of old art left!

Akari Takeuchi, LinLin, Karin Miyamoto, Kanon Fukuda Cartoons

Shin Minimoni: Takechan, LinLin, Karin, and Kanyon. So many distinct faces and characters to draw, even thought I'm not as satisfied with how Kanyon turned out. But Karin! I'm so glad she has a group now and I have more reasons to draw her. So cute to draw!

Risako Sugaya, Sayumi Michishige, and JunJun Cartoons

Zoku V-u-den: Risako, Sayu, and JunJun. Leeegs. And Risako's duck face, lol.

Fanart Corner - Coolios Idol Cereal

Both of these are extremely dated by now, thanks to one leaving for a group outside Hello!Project and another getting a drastic shortcut...

Aa! Chibi

Aa!: Akari Saho (Up Up Girls/former Egg), Airi, and Miyabi. Similear image to Buono!, just sans the goofy Momo. I personally like the movement I was able to capture in Saho's pose.
Chisato Okai Caricature

Chisato Okai of C-ute caricature. I love love love how she turned out; cute, sporty, with a cool hairstyle. But that soccer ball/football. I should not draw soccer/footballs. (Or rather, I should draw them until they become worthy enough to grace Chisa's presence.)

Looks like I've run out of caricatures to post for now!

Fanart Corner - Gachapin and a Future Model

Soooo... this first one is a doozy considering her recent scandal and all...

Minami Minegishi

Miichan, Minami Minegishi from AKB48. I should have drawn her in a silly or cartoony pose. Then it might have actually looked like her...

Yurina Kumai Caricature

Yurina Kumai from Berryz caricature. This was the one I was really looking forward to drawing, since I thought it would be funny if she could hardly fit in the picture due to her height. I hope I can execute this concept better in the future.

Fanart Corner - Queens of Diva

I'm going to start posting another old series, this time done in "chibi" style. In 2009, I decided to draw all the new shuffle groups, but I didn't finish them until early 2011, so some are way older than others.

High-King Chibi

High-King: Yuuka, Aichan, Reina, Maimi, and Captain. Leaders and aces. Highlights for me are Reina's kitty face and Yuuka's glare. The other girls don't really look like themselves to me.

Sayumi Michishige Caricature

Sayumi Michishige of Morning Musume. This was actually the first of the caricatures I drew, back in,I think, spring of 2009. Some parts of it I like and wish later caricatures were more like it, but I see areas where I improved, too. (Her eyes and one of her hands are weak.)

Fanart Corner - Clique Momo

Finally I have the last of the "cartoony" series that mutated over time. I've never posted the original Morning Musume drawings, the one's I think are the best, but they'll be coming soon.

Momoko Tsugunaga and Risako Sugaya Cartoons

Momo and Risako of Berryz. Probably my favorite of the post-Momusu drawings of this series. Exaggerated, but still somewhat cute (ribbons tied into bows on Risako's sneakers!)

Erina Mano Caricature

Caricature of Erina Mano, H!P's (soon to be, or now?) former soloist. Like a mask, her face has one main expression. This was especially true in her early photocards. And that was kind of creepy. So the concept here is that she's got her face pressed on the glass in that expression, draining your soul.

Fanart Corner - Imperfection and Perfection

Okay, for now, a piece I find both embarrassing and cool...

Maasa Sudou, Saki Shimizu (Captain), and Yurina Kumai Cartoons

This was where I completely forgot the style I had started with this mini-series. It actually became the opposite of the big-head, small-body style I started with. This is (supposed) to be Maasa, Captain, and Yurina of Berryz. The tallest Berryz guarding their tiny Captain. Next time I draw a series in a certain style, I I better draw them quickly, because having months in between a style is hard to jump back into, unless I drew with that style in great volume. Which I obviously didn't here.

Airi Suzuki Caricature

Airi Suzuki of Buono!/C-ute caricature. H!P's genius all-star. I drew little kappa heads in the background, but I forgot what the design on her trophy is. That is, if it is anything. I wish I had drawn her cuter.

Fanart Corner - Fashion Queens

I'm going to upload the rest of my old Hello!Project art from a year or two ago. I need to bide time for the new art I plan to make (I've been focusing on commissions and my own non-fanart projects lately.) Also, I might as well upload, just in case someone out there is interested. I know I can be my worst critic, so I'll let my fellow idol fans decide what is cool or cute or not.

Mariko-sama

Mariko Shinoda of AKB48. Well, supposed to be. I gave her too long of hair, huh?

Miya

Caricature of Miyabi Natsuyaki of Berryz Koubou/Buono! Her facial structure makes her one of the easiest and most fun to draw girls in H!P ever. I actually liked it when she sometimes wore her hair similar to this. And this is another picture I want to color vividly if I ever get around to it.

Fanart Corner - Girlfriends

Chii and Miya

One third of Berryz Koubou in cartoon-style. Chinami Tokunaga trying to hug her "girlfriend", Miyabi Natsuyaki. Chii does not look like Chii (a pattern for the taller girls?) But Miya looks like Miya. Even for these two walking sticks, they are a lot thinner than they should be (if the heads were bigger it would be closer to my original cartoony concept. But their limbs are still too long.) Here, Chii especially looks like a pole. And Miya's pose looks painful. However, I think the outfits are cute though simple.

H!P's future rock star, Reina Tanaka! I think I captured her distinctive likeness pretty well here. I'm looking forward to coloring this with wild color.

Fanart Corner - Fresh Legs

Maimi - Airi

The other half of C-ute, the more promoted/popular half, Maimi Yajima and Airi Suzuki. Maimi's face looks off, but Airi looks like Airi. Though I am proud of their shapely legs (and Airi's cute hand on her chest pose), their proportions are too close to their actual proportions for this series.

Kanyon

Kanon Fukuda caricature. Back when she had longer hair. I think I captured her features and character well (those eyes are so sneaky and teasing!) But I think her face shape is more round than what I have drawn. Like most of these caricatures, the wrist and hands are terrible. I think I was going to fix them when I inked, because technically, these drawings were never meant to be shown to anyone until they were finished. But that hardly went anywhere (only one was ever finished.)

Fanart Corner - The Smiles VS Linlinman

Sakichy - Yuukarin - Dawa - Kanyon

Old-school S/mileage in cartoon-style. I drew this around the time Sakichy and Kanyon had their haircuts, hence the visible edits. This reminds me of how much S/mileage has changed since 2009. Like C-ute and other drawings in this series I haven't posted yet, the heads look fine to me, what I was going for (maybe they could skew a little more in the cartoonish or realistic directions.) But the bodies are too elongated. I went from big-headed cartoon-characters to more realistic proportions to... you'll see.

LinLin

Part 3 (final!) of the Graduation Special! (Super)LinLin(Man)! Again, a One Piece reference. She's such a dork. But that's the only thing that really tips me off that it's her in this drawing, so I consider this one a failure. A costume and an aura are not the only ingredients in a good caricature.

Fanart Corner - Cute Bananas

Nakky - Maimai - Chisa

Half of C-ute drawn in cartoon style: Saki Nakajima, Mai Hagiwara, and Chisato Okai. Maimai is where the style started to degenerate/mutate into long-limbed giants. I wish I could keep the heads and re-proportion the bodies, but it's too late for this series. All but the Morning Musume ones need to be re-drawn.

JunJun

Part 2 of the Graduation Special! JunJun! Her obsession with bananas was awesome. Now it's like I can't avoid putting in a banana reference every time I draw her. I wish she could have tormented Yuko (who hates bananas~) while she was in Hello!Project, because Yuko is hilarious when she's pissed and JunJun is just plain hilarious.

Fanart Corner - Cheesy Superheroines

Sae

Uggh, this one is so embarrassing, yet I laugh at it, too. It's supposed to be Sae Miyazawa from AKB48. She seems to be the silly, sporty, and manly member. At least she looks silly here? Uggh, she looks like a superhero reject here rather than sporty (what was I thinking?! Besides superheroes, who else wears their underwear over a body suit?)

Koha

Graduation special! I already posted the Eri caricature in an earlier post and the Aichan caricature on deviantART (the only one that has been inked and colored so far.) This time I post an earlier grad, Koharu Kusumi. It was fun drawing her, since a crazy expression fits her character. Such a goof. I grew to love her character (I found her annoying when I first became a fan, though.)

Fanart Corner - OMG The Faces

Manoeri

Back around the summer of 2009, I drew Morning Musume in cartoon-style. Those scans were lost when I recently re-imaged my laptop, so I'll have to find them again to scan and post (they are actually in not so good shape because they were torn out of a large, flimsy sketchbook. They are probably fraught with creases by now.) Then I decided to draw everyone in H!P in that style (though the style skewed worse and worse later on.) From 2009-2011, I drew the rest of the girls. Here's Erina Mano, H!P's composite of famous faces and sole soloist. She actually doesn't look so bad, just not as angular as the original style I used for Morning Musume. She even resembles herself a little, gasp!

Rii

Caricature of Risako Sugaya. Well, this looks like her. The ears, lips, and eyes (kind of) are hers. But they fit together so awkwardly. I need to find a way to draw her that exaggerates her features but doesn't make her look so terrible, because she really is a pretty girl (despite what Hello!Project's fashion supervisors would have us think. H!P, please stop putting your thicker girls in granny clothes!)

Fanart Corner - Cracky 'n' Creepy

Cracky Koha

Koha was already like a living cartoon character during her time in Morning Musume, so this wasn't hard to envision at all. I drew this late 2010/early 2011, around the time Eri, JunJun, and LinLin left or were going to leave. I was doing tributes because of the graduation (hence the tributes for the other three girls posted earlier.)

Nacky

Saki Nakajima caricature, a.k.a. Nacky. Okay, maybe this caricature is my favorite of all the ones I drew from 2009-2011. It's exaggerated, but it still looks like Nacky and it still looks cute. Sadly, most of the others don't come close to either of those criteria.

Fanart Corner - Buono!mon Yellow Version

Buono!mon Yellow Version - Momo

And finally, Momo as Pokemon Yellow's Pikachu. It fits, since Momo is rodent-like and has even drawn (and shared the voice of) a Momochu. However, Miya and Airi are still Red and Green in Buono! respectively. Momo is now Pink, to fit her name, so there really needs to be a Clefairy or Jigglypuff (Sing!) Version of Pokemon (a Pokemon Momo/Pink) for current Momo. I think Pikachu's Pokemon Yellow pose fits hyper Momo, though. Anyway, maybe I'll redraw this series, maybe I won't. I have plenty of other fanart ideas to work from.

Chii

Finally a caricature that actually looks like a caricature! It's Chinami Tokunaga! Now her hair is way shorter, though. But still, I think I captured the ever cheerful Chii!

Fanart Corner - Cyborg Facepalm

Mayuyu

Continuing my series of random AKB48 girls that I like, here's Mayu Watanabe, the C.G. cyborg-girl idol. Out of all these anime-style drawings of the AKB48 girls, I think I was able to capture Mayuyu's blank robotic expression the best. But I still have plenty more to share, so you guys can be the judge.

Maa-san

Maasa Sudou Caricature. The facepalm pose is because she used to seem like one of the main members that was always irritated with Momo (along with Chinami.) But now almost everyone seems irritated with Momo (even some of the newer, younger H!P members.) Now her character seems too helpful and gentle for the caricature to work.
